Outdoor Adventures with Jarrod Day
Australia
Приєднався 3 лис 2008
As a young boy, fishing from the Portsea and Sorrento piers along the Mornington Peninsula coastline was a regular occurrence. My love for fishing grew and many years later now find it much more than a hobby, but a lifestyle.
I have been fortunate enough to have been a special guest on many local and national fishing television programs over the years learning my craft. A co-host on the 97.7fm 3SER radio program "The Fishing Show", I also contribute many fishing print magazine articles for Victorian and Australia's leading Fishing Magazines.
So with all that, I hope you enjoy the youtube channel. www.jarrodday.com

Catching Goliath Grouper Florida Style
Переглядів 107День тому
I decided to explore the USA and catch up with long time friend Joe Cullen and his buddies. While we targeted a few species around Florida, catching a Goliath Grouper was high on the bucket list. On this particular day, it didn't take long to have a shot at a few, with one beast landed estimated around 400lb. Epic calamari and whiting fishing on the Mornington Peninsula
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Місяць тому
These is nothing more fun than targeting whiting and calamari on the Mornington Peninsula. I received a call from Kelvin to join him in whiting fishing and boy oh boy did we find the mother load. Though we did have to move around a few times to find them, but that's typical whiting fishing.
Trout Fishing Eildon's rivers after the rain
Переглядів 567Місяць тому
Finally our first dumping of rain arrived this week and with that, the rivers increased in flow and were a little discoloured, the perfect combination for some great trout fishing. I headed to the hills to give a new lure a try, the Duo Realis Minnow 80SP and boy was it a hit. Great action, easy to work over shallow riffles and the trout just couldn't resist it. Mount Martha Land based Calamari
Переглядів 9332 місяці тому
While the April weather has blessed us once again and with a few hours to spare, it was off to the Mount Martha Rocks to rustle up a feed. It didn't take long before I had my quarry. Mount Martha is a great place to catch calamari all year round but you do need to take care as rock fishing can be dangerous at times. Landbased Garfish in Western Port
Переглядів 8772 місяці тому
What a great morning down off the rocks in Western Port. Fished the bottom of the Low tide in search of garfish. Unfortunately the bite was only short before the tide all dropped out, but I did managed to get them going with a little berley. Talk about Monsters, these guy's are certainly some of the biggest Gar's I've caught.....so good.
Exploring Gippsland's Rugged Mountains for Trout.
Переглядів 4933 місяці тому
It's not always about catching, exploring new areas can also be a highlight of an outdoor adventure. This trip, I decided to head to the hills and find new rivers and access points to fish for the upcoming winter trout run. Certainly was a good trip with a few fish thrown in to make it worthy.

Luring Brown Trout in the Aberfeldy River

On this EP, I head to a family cabin not visited in six years and let me tell you, I will be frequently visiting it more often now. Not to far from the Thompson and Alberfeldy Rivers, the fishing was insane with pack attacks on the lure so many times, I couldn't keep count. Kevington and the Upper Goulburn River

On this EP, Herman joined me for some further exploration up the Upper Goulburn River into some of the most scenic sections I have ever seen. Let me tell you, there was no shortage of trout on both spinner and hard body lures. usic by Pumpupthemind from Pixabay Music by Oleksii Kaplunskyi from Pixabay Music by Sergii Pavkin from Pixabay Tackle: compleatangler.com.au/ Tackle: www.wilsonfishing.c...
Spinning the Upper Goulburn River

With a rainy Melbourne, it seemed fitting to go exploring. So I jumped in the car and headed to the Upper Goulburn River around Kevington. Certainly no shortage of fish about and with the shallow running river, Spinning was by far the most effective technique. Melbourne's weather was a little bleak last week so I packed a few things and headed north to Lake Hume with Nathan Bradley from Compleat Angler Wangaratta. the music is extremely annoying..
That was a great day! Great catch and release!
😂🎉
Absolutely cleaned up boys! Well played 👏🏻
Can you catch squid standing off the rocks near Frankston boat ramp?
Yes you can
@@jarrodday cheers
Just be careful as the rocks can be slippery….ensure you have good grip on your shoes and or wear shoe cleats….
Nice session well done
Thanks
Simple Fun great result well done cheers DJ ps good feed
Thanks 👍
Good timing with the comment at 8.40. 5 seconds later you hooked a fish 👍👍
Oh yeah!
thought you looked familiar when I bumped into ya over the weekend haha. Great vid by the way
Cheers mate, how did you go ? Get down to the river from that track ?
@@jarrodday went alright picked up 4 little brownies, took me a good 20-25ish just to get down to the stream. I headed upstream but mostly deep water and a lot of climbing if you want to keep heading up, didn’t try downstream though. How did you go further down stream?
@@SpennyHunts Gave up and headed to the pub for a counter meal, was pretty knackered after having a go up near the dam wall....Some really good water up there.....Also fished the Aberfeldy on sunrise but the water level is still too low.....a few more weeks and it should really fire up with some decent rain...
@@jarrodday haha that’s fair, did you pick up any in the Aberfeldy?
@@SpennyHunts Not This trip, water is too low and gin clear....after a bit of rain and some discoloration it should pick up.
great vid cheers man :)
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome.where to buy this lure?
Call Compleat Angler (03) 9794 9397. They should have this or can get it for you.
Great place, nice spots and good fishing trip mate and landed a few beauties, thumbs up and greetings from NZ,, Tony.
Thanks 👍
Awesome video mate well done. Will the trout fishing be any good coming into winter in the next few weeks and before season close? Relatively new fisherman here after some advice cheers 👍🏼
Absolutely, the fishing only gets better from now on.....The only time I stop trout fishing now is if the weather is good to get out in the boat.
Great vid Jarrod! Amazing how the trout get going when the first decent rains hit after a dry summer and autumn. Unreal time to be on the river good stuff
Totally is mate, best thing is, you just have to drop everything and go when it happens…..as you’d know……happy fishing buddy….
Great video mate, that's some lovely country up there. The larger Duo certainly did the trick. Cheers!
Thanks mate, yeah was a good choice to upgrade the size...Ill be sticking to using it until the end of the season now i think.
Great video Matt just a question mate whereabouts can I purchase those mustad hooks you’re using as am finding it difficult to source them out cheers mate 👍
Contact Compleat Angler Dandenong on (03) 9794 9397 - They can order them in for you - Mustad 4540 1/2 size 12
Wondering where in westerport this is 😊
Balnarring mate
fantastic video whats the rod you using?
Dean, that rod is the Nitro Custom Squid rod
@@jarrodday Thanks Jarrod
Great video mate. Credit to your camera placement. Me and my wife have only gone there once. Unsuccessful- is squid available all across the rocks ? Well any where there's weed ? Cheers
Yes mate, right along that whole section of coast wherever there is weed
@@jarrodday cheers. We are the mistake first time of just congregating with the masses. Assuming the squid were there. We will try elsewhere next time
Great vid, is there a “good” time of day to try? Was thinking about late afternoon/dusk
I prefer the top of the high tide. whether that is morning or dusk it does not matter.
@@jarrodday thanks mate 👍🏻
After watching about 10 of these videos i need to ask...has anyone actually ate one of these? I have yet to see one person actually keep one! Why would they have a MAXIMUM length that you can keep? That is ridiculous!
I have caught them plenty of times and always released them. I am not interested in eating them, just enjoy catching and releasing. Plenty of people do each them though but only the legal sized ones.
Hey mate great vid and nice sizes. Can I ask a rough area of the location? Otherwise ill trawl google maps. Thanks again for the content
Down along Balnarring this was, but the rocks off merricks, somers is also good.
My local fishing spot, surprise didn’t see you there, usually there Saturday mornings. I always get a few good ones around this time of year with the calm clear water. Great vid mate
Extremely weedy place so everytime I cast I count the jig falling and don’t let it go past 12-15 seconds. And float with squid jig actually works well for me to
@mrclancymac1 Yeah great spot mate, been fishing it for 20 years both calamari and garfish….I won’t mention the whiting and snapper yet…..happy fishing….
@@mrclancymac112-15 seconds ? It’s only 1-2 meters deep ???
@@jarrodday max 12-15 seconds otherwise you will lose a jig. Gets pretty deep quickly there, on high tide plenty of water to work with. I also snorkel there and collect all the lost jigs haha so might get some of yours ;) Tight lines
awesome quick vlog mate 🎉 really enjoyed it once again
Glad you enjoyed it
That’s awesome mate . Well done. Decent size. Better than the little stuff I’ve seen caught in ppb. Haha. I’m guessing to access those rocks low tide is required?
Jarrod, they are beauties. Garfish butterfly fillets cooked with Panko breadcrumbs better even than KGW I reckon.
Most certainly are mate....delish
Great sized gars mate. Well done.
Your paddle is wrong way around
Still got the job done....thanks
Gday Jarrod. Where can I get some of those Mustad 4540 1/2 hooks in a size 12? Cannot seem to find them anywhere! Thanks.
Where are you located ? Victoria ? If so, ask Compleat Angler Dandenong or Bentleigh....if they don't have them, they can order them in for you.
Hey Jarrod, hoping you can shed some light on this. I have caught plenty of average sized gars around Frankston but now im looking to chase the bigger models which are found in WP. How does one try fish for gars when there are soo many toad fish about? Any pointers you could provide would be appreciated. cheers.
Hey, sorry for the late reply.....did you see my latest video of garfish in Western port......Balnarring and somers are top locations.....toadfish can be painful, but you just have to fish through them to get the gars.....
Your reaction to the frog. Priceless! thanks for the content.
My pleasure!
Im glad you left me a comment. Love your videos man! Here in south Carolina probably the most popular method is power bait dough on a #8 hook or in line spinners like rooster tails. I don’t believe i have ever seen a guy using crank baits in a river for trout, just bigger baits for bass. Lake joccassee has some big trout and guys will troll crank baits their. I seen a 8lb brown in a cooler at jocassee once. Anyway im going to buy some small crank baits and top water plugs and go at it Aussie style! About how big would you say your lures typically are? 30-45mm long is my guess?
@meetseeker Hey mate, small crank and jerk baits are more popular here then spinners or using powerbait. If you can get them, you really need to try the Live Target Jerk Trout in the 2.75in size and the DUO Realis Shad 59cm. Don't be scared to upsize to 70mm jerkbaits during the spawning months. those bigger fish will smash a larger lure. sometimes we use up to 100mm during those times, especially after rain when the rivers rise. get me on Facebook if you like - facebook.com/jarrod.day.9 You'll see plenty of my photo's etc:. Stay in touch.

@@jarrodday Sounds good bro , n yeah he done himself a mischief 😂 but hell be fine cheers
Great fishing trip and good result too, tight lines and greetings from NZ,, Tony.
Keep going your videos are amazing !
Thanks
Gday mate are you just tying a lure to your line each time you swap out? Trying to figure out whether I should run a leader into a snap swivel to make it easy to changes lures on the go
Yes mate, I like to tie a loop knot to my lure. i have used a lure clip, but i have found sometimes the lure does not swim correctly each cast.
What burley did u use? Does bread work ok?
Sorry for the late reply. I use Wilson Berley pellets mixed with tuna oil and mashed pilchards. Bread is too light and will break up too much. You need something more solid.
Love your videos mate, easily my favourite trout fishing videos. I realise thanks to your clips that now I have a one year old bundle of joy to look after, not having the time to take off whenever I get the itch, I can look forward to many less trips, but look forward to discovering more remote places that’ll prove rewarding. I remember many years ago going to a remote part of NSW fishing a tributary of the Cox’s River, the fishing was insane. Countless monsters at every turn. I’ll never forget my first cast, it was a pink fluro lure that resembled a simple piece of bent plastic with no pattern, the trout launched for it. All the fish looked athletic, obviously all wild will tail fins built to power… great memories. Thanks for sharing your adventure, I thoroughly enjoy watching every vid.
Nice video, may I ask what river it was? Cheers
tambo river
You walked that far to shoot that opening scene, left the treble hook in the now blatantly broken mouth of the trout and then hope it will survive ffs? It’s not hard to see why people stereotype lure fisherman as an embarrassment to the sport
You’ve inspired me to get out there mate. It won’t be easy while keeping junior entertained in a harness (he’s only one!) but it can’t be too much more challenging than wading through a small stream I guess. Thanks for sharing.
thanks for watching.....
Nice work mate. Keep them coming. All the best from Moe town. In Gippsland.
Thanks 👍
Great video mate. I wish I had your ability to catch those beautiful trout….. Cheers…. LA
Coldest bath I ever had in that river in the middle of winter

What’s the river like now is it pretty high
was gin clear and low, should still be the same as there has been no rain
